Bromont, le mondial cyclotour

Sunday, July 29, Bromont, QC

Team Taxi presented it self at the Cyclotour in numbers. The weather was prefect as the group headed out on the 100+ kilometer loop around Estrie starting in Bromont heading out towards Eastmond then back to Knowlton before heading home back to Bromont. The race started out fairly mellow with the larger group composed of seasoned racers and weekend worriors alike. No big attacks happened that could stay off for very long as the pack seemed interested in staying together. This is exactly what Team Taxi wanted for the day. This day it was decided that Team Taxi would work for me by monitoring the pack controlling the pace at the end to set up the finish. As anticipated the group stayed together heading for the last 15 kilometer of the race when a small break established itself with approx 15 second gap heading into the last long stretch before the left hand turn towards the finish. At this point Team Taxi started to get organized. The main players for the end of the race would be myself, Pierre Pigeon, Jeff Rivest, George Visser and J.F Blais. With 15 kilometer to go, Pierre got to work at the front in order to get the race organized and bring back the break. After working the front for 5+ minutes, J.F. and George went to the front to help Pierre close down the rest of the gap. The timing was perfect because we caught them just as we turned left on Chemin de Brome were there’s a little hill were the next break could be created. That’s exactly what happened as J.F. set me up to latch on to a small break. We had the right number of guys and it seemed to be the move, but everyone was looking a each other too much comdeming the break not to succeed. A couple of lone attackers tried their hand a it but not to any impact. The peleton rode the together until we made the last turn on Blvd Bromont for the last 5 kilometer. J.F. and Pierre came up next to me to keep me at the front. Jeff also had a few moments at the front to keep thing in check and then the train started to link together. The final 2 kilometers was all TEAM TAXI at the front setting up the spring. George made a very timing appearance for his efforts stringing out the group allowing us to single file. Not bad for someone racing with a bout of food poisoning. Then it was Pierre taking it up the last hill and down the back side. At this point there was a crash taking out Jeff Rivest from the action. J.F. was the last lead out before handing things off to me for the end. J.F. has full control and was in perfect position as a string attack came from the right at 100 meter out. I jumped on that wheel thinking it would bring me to the line. I saw light and decided to go for it. I jumped for the line and quickly established a good gap and though it was in the bag. Unfortunately I was dragging with me another sprinter who came around me to get the win by a wheel. Second place will have to do as that what I got - an excellent result for the team. Even better was seeing the team work as a team. We made up a plan on the rode and achieved it. Another podium for TEAM TAXI.
